Learning music production without burning out wasn\u2019t something I figured out quickly \u2014 it took years of mistakes, pauses, and resets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To be fair, I have<\/em> burned out multiple times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But right now, I feel like I\u2019m finally moving at a pace that\u2019s sustainable \u2014 more consistent, more grounded, and honestly more enjoyable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Who am I? Truth be told, I\u2019m creating this blog to improve my website reach. But more importantly, I want to connect with other producers who might be out there looking for guidance, clarity, or just reassurance that they\u2019re not alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If that\u2019s you, follow along. Let\u2019s get after it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n My journey started as an artist and producer back in 2015<\/strong>. I took guitar lessons growing up and absolutely loved playing guitar. I was also in band all throughout middle school and high school \u2014 I played percussion. In 2015, I finally got my first DAW \u2014 a digital audio workstation. It came with a Razer Blade laptop<\/strong> that my parents gifted me for college. I only picked that laptop because it came with a version of FL Studio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the time, I had no idea that decision was going to change my life forever.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was studying something totally unrelated to music production in college. Music was just something I did on the side \u2014 making beats, watching YouTube tutorials, learning as much as I could. Most of that learning came from creators like Busy Works Beats<\/strong>, and I was mostly trying to make hip-hop beats and figure out how this whole thing worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I met some people in college who were also making music, but it wasn\u2019t super serious. It was just\u2026 fun.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2017<\/strong>, I moved to Chico, California for a college exchange program. One of my friends \u2014 who was also my roommate \u2014 was a music producer making electronic music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s when everything really shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was still in college, still just having fun, but we started going to raves. And I remember thinking, damn\u2026 this shit is awesome<\/em>. Like, this is how I want to spend my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At the time, I didn\u2019t fully realize where this was going. But that\u2019s when I fell in love with the scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2018<\/strong>, I was still in college, going to music festivals, getting inspired by main stage acts. Creativity wasn\u2019t really a priority yet, and honestly I wasn\u2019t that serious about producing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But in 2019<\/strong>, I saw Illenium<\/strong> perform live at The Sylvee in Madison<\/strong>, and that show genuinely changed my life. That was a turning point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2020<\/strong>, I started promoting events in Minneapolis with SIMshows<\/strong>, one of the biggest electronic music promoters in the area. I helped with their website too, and I just loved being around the scene and feeling connected to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Then in 2021<\/strong>, I landed a job at my dream company \u2014 Apple<\/strong> \u2014 in Culver City, Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For the first time, I was actually making money. Which meant\u2026 I could finally buy music plugins. That part was amazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But I still wasn\u2019t releasing music. I wasn\u2019t taking it fully seriously yet. I was making beats, remixes, bootlegs \u2014 all fun and games \u2014 but nothing really intentional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2023 and 2024<\/strong>, things finally changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After years of trying to figure everything out on my own, I joined an online music production program and found a mentor. I also studied at IO Music Academy<\/strong> in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At that point, I had quit my corporate job at Apple. I was like, fuck it \u2014 I\u2019m going all in on music.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n I released my first song ever, \u201cEmotinos,\u201d<\/a><\/strong> and got some really solid feedback. But even then, it was still a struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The biggest thing that changed my approach to music production wasn\u2019t a plugin, a DAW, or a shortcut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was mentorship<\/strong>.
